Every Tuesday New & selected brings you one of my poems, either from my back catalogue or recently written. It’s part of A Patch of Sky, my reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, please consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

I loathe/ adore this boxed-in landscape
field/clouds brown/chalk

a searchlight scabious
amongst the fumey wild thyme

chacking birds in sour trees
trunks/fenceposts lichen yellow

the smudged textile of sky/land
sunlight the colour of needle

stitched with coltsfoot gold
edged with blackthorn sculpts

over some brow the wind flaps
full tilt from the north/east

veils of cloud/smoke
skin-pinning rain

body/raiment clothe
it’s tempting to hope
