En route to California
On the plane yesterday not flying, but flying through media space, personal video screens, huge choice of films, music, games but no text.
I like the idea of the shed as an outpost on the border of different worlds.
Watched four films on the plane:
The Squid and the Whale - divorce and its effect on two brothers and how the eldest learns to break free from his father
Alien Autopsy - British quirkiness meets global gullibility. V funny
Inside Man - Spike Lee bank robbery with a twist.
Enron the smartest guys in the room - mesmerising and frightening documentary about corporate greed and the way Reganomics inspired a mad spiral of debt and corruption. How the dream of free market free enterprise went badly wrong. The danger of big ideas. This film touched many different roots and routes in me and had a number of aspects in common with Alien Autopsy. The way turning a profit often involves some kind of trick.

Thailand
It's always the same afternoon
a couple of days before the holiday ends
around 4pm and the sun's slant
warming each colour
there are clouds in the distance over the hills
you pass a garden where a woman waters her plants
a battered pick up truck goes past
sometimes a Toyota laden with seedboxes
the sun reaches into every courtyard
someone is sleeping beside you
yelIow construction equipment stands in yards
a man in shorts rides past on a motorcycle
a red tractor moves through a field,
this afternoon of all afternoons
a change in the weather may be read from the clouds
or the pale green back of the leaves
but for now just a few more days of holiday
enjoying the chance to slip into the dream
a line of washing hangs in the shade
to see distances more clearly a hand rises
