Regarding “twelfth” as a beautiful word: in Dutch, mostly held to be an ugly language, twelve is pronounced “twaluf” or “tvaluf”. Half twelve is “Olluf tvaluf.” Sometimes that seems beautiful to me; sometimes grotesque. (Half the hour is before in Dutch, so half twelve is eleven thirty.)
